All About Step Challenges

A fun, team-based activity that lets you track your daily steps, compete with others, and stay motivated to move more!

How do I join?

Discover & Sign Up: Open the Aaptiv app and navigate to the ‘For You’ tab. Look under the ‘Available Challenges’ section to discover upcoming step challenges and sign up during the early registration window before the challenge starts. (If enabled by an admin, late registration may also be permitted after the start date.)

Auto-Assignment to a Team: Upon signing up, you will automatically be assigned to an active team—no manual team selection required.

Connect Your Step Tracker or Health Hub: When entering a challenge, you will be prompted in-app to connect your preferred step tracker or mobile health hub (Apple Health on iOS, Health Connect by Google on Android, or compatible wearables like Oura, Garmin, Fitbit, Polar, and Withings).

Access Active Challenge: Once registered and the challenge begins, you can track your active challenge under the ‘In Progress’ section on your Today screen.

Do I need a wearable to participate in a Step Challenge?

No — users can participate using a supported wearable or their smartphone through Apple Health or Health Connect.

Which devices and apps work with Step Challenges?

Apple Health on iOS, Health Connect on Android, or compatible wearables like Oura, Garmin, Fitbit, Polar, and Withings

How do I connect my device and sync my steps?

In-App Prompting: Joining a challenge will trigger a prompt within the app asking you to pair your step tracker or preferred health hub. You can always go back and change your preferred wearable in the hamburger menu (top left) and select ‘Connected Apps‘.

Why don't my steps in Aaptiv match my device?

Your wearable app tracks steps instantly from your device, while Aaptiv receives data in periodic background batches. If you see a difference, don't worry, your steps are safely stored and will automatically reconcile in Aaptiv once the background sync completes.

Will I get double steps if I have multiple wearables?

No, connecting multiple trackers won't double-count your steps! Aaptiv automatically uses the single device with the highest step count for each day, ensuring your score is always accurate, fair, and hassle-free.

How do teams and leaderboards work?

Teams are auto-assigned to keep competition balanced. Real-time leaderboards let you track both overall team scores and individual progress right from the 'In Progress' section of your app.

Why aren't all of my steps counting toward my challenge?

Challenges may be capped depending on how your admin sets up the challenge. When enabled, capping ensures winning becomes about overall team participation and consistency rather than just a few high-stepping individuals.

Can I join a Step Challenge after it has started?

Don't worry if you missed launch day, late joining depends on how your admin has set up the challenge. If enabled, you can jump in at any point during the challenge and automatically join a team to start making your steps count!

What happens when a Step Challenge ends?

When a challenge ends at midnight, a 24-hour buffer allows all wearable devices to sync remaining steps before the official winning team is announced the next day. You can view final team scores, individual leaderboards, and rosters anytime under your app notifications (top left menu in the app).
